Music Production Professional Certificate

This one-year programme is designed to give you all the tools required to make music from the most minimal setup.

The emphasis is on practical results, beyond plain academic knowledge to actually being able to create music and eventually turning this in to a career.

While you learn elements of sound engineering, song-writing, music business, and gain specific knowledge of industry standard music software and hardware equipment, the most important outcome will be a better understanding of what it really takes to make music. Investing in this course will save you from expensive mistakes when buying equipment and software, and will give you the knowledge that would have otherwise taken many years to build learning from magazines, books and experience.

£5,290 (part-time) and £8,530 (full-time)

Pass criteria

In order to obtain a Music Production Professional Certificate, you must complete the following two courses with a minimum score of 80%

Music Production 101: Essentials (18 weeks - 8 credits)

Everything you need to know in order to start producing music at a professional level, including making beats, subtractive synthesis, sampling, midi, mixers and effects, and the nature of sound. You'll also cover the basics of microphones, and an introduction to music business. This module includes the Apple Certified Logic 101 training programme, also available separately. Logic Pro is used to record, edit and mix.

Structure, Form, and Creativity (18 weeks - 8 credits)

Being able to use the equipment doesn't automatically make you produce music that people will buy. Here you will learn to use critical listening to understand about arrangement and composition, and how certain programming or engineering tricks can help maintain the interest throughout a track. In short, this course is like songwriting from a producer point of view.

Where can you go from here?

By the end of this course we expect you to have started creating your own music and have something you can play to others to get feedback and start building your network of 'industry connections'. You can start looking for people to collaborate with, approach record labels with your demos or start promoting yourself, directly putting into practice what you have learned about the music business. You will have the support of the school, having your name and skills listed on our website, and with free access to our database of contacts.

Moreover, the credits you get for this certificate will count towards a higher certificate should you wish to continue your LSS studies at a later date (subject to entrance exam if more than one academic year has elapsed since obtaining your last certification).

The value of LSS Certification

London School of Sound is a private college and the certificates we award are recognised around the world, thanks to the reputation we have built as a professional training institution.

Existing accreditation bodies often have little real value with respect to music production. In contrast, we develop our curriculum and certification system to reflect the skills actually needed in the creative industries and in the music industry in particular. However, as a consequence our accreditation system cannot be considered equivalent to any type of formal qualification in the UK or abroad.

This means credits gained from our courses cannot be used towards a degree, nor can they be used as an equivalent to GCSE, A Level or University Degree.

As an Apple Authorized Training Centre we award certificates on behalf of Apple, limited to the Apple Logic Pro Training Programme. These are accepted and recognised by every other Apple Training Centre in the world.
