What's going on

A brief mid-Summer newsletter, all about the 5 days Miloco Workshop. You'd be crazy to miss it. Read below.

For September/October there is a lot planned; formal announcements coming next month, but we can drop a few hints: Sound to Picture short courses, new toys, more new toys, Ableton Live Certification (first!), more one-day seminars....

LSS Students save £300 on Miloco Recording Workshop (August only)

We have an exciting 5 days workshop coming in August, it will take place at Miloco Studios over two weekends. We did run this workshop before (in June) and it was a complete success. It's not clear at this stage whether we will be able to make it in to a regular course or not, much depends on the availability of the studios and engineers, as both are quite in demand.

But let us explain more in detail what's the big deal: have you ever wondered what would be like to work in one of the best studios in London, with someone that really knows what he's doing? Is it possible that in the future you might be involved in a project that requires this kind of facilities? Is it just the equipment, or do they use their microphones in a different way? For a start, let's have a look at some of the people that use Miloco. That's fine, the link will open in another page, you can go and we'll wait here until you come back.

. . .

. .

....Done? Would you agree that these guys must be doing something right?

So we have hired the studio (more than one actually, so you can visit a few different facilities), the engineers, a band, and arranged for eight students to be actively involved in these sessions, from recording drums, guitars and vocals, to mixing in a mix of analog and software. The engineers have been hand-picked for their skills but also for their ability to explain and teach, and additional notes will be posted on our website for you to read after the workshop is finished.

The admission to this workshop is normally £895 (which is roughly how much it costs to hire the studio for one single day!) but ex-students can join for just £585. It's a saving of over £300, and it's available to anyone that has attended even just one hour of training at London School of Sound.

We can't stress enough what a unique opportunity this is: there are no similar courses anywhere in the world, the only other way to be accepted in a recording session at this level would be to be part of the band. Being able to ask questions directly to top engineers certainly beats reading forums on internet, or buying random valve compressors hoping that they'll make your mixes 'phat' and 'warm'.

Please note that this is an advanced workshop: you need to have some experience/understanding of microphones, mixers, compressors etc to be able to attend. If in doubt call our office between 10.30 and 6.30pm Monday to Friday or email and we'll be happy to discuss your case.

Places are assigned on a first comes first served basis, the £300 discount will not be available on future courses, we can't guarantee if and when a similar course will run again.

Blue Audio Visuals closes, bargains if you are quick

It might not be as impressive as the closure of the Turnkey and Sound control stores, but it's something that hits us more.

Blue is a store that has existed in Angel for a long time, specialising in 2nd hand audio equipment, musical instruments and cameras. They were also great at fixing stuff, from time to time servicing our collection of synthesisers, and it was a great place to visit to be tempted in to buying something that you didn't even know existed, but that certainly looked cool and retro. Now a sharp increase in the rent has made it impossible for them to remain open, and the store will stay open just for two to three weeks to get rid of as much stock as possible. The deal is "see something you like? make us an offer". What remains will probably go in storage and later be sold on e-bay, but here is a chance to grab some vintage analogue synth or a good pair of hi-fi speakers. And guitars too.

Go while they're still there, the address is 44 Duncan Street, London , N1 8BW (just outside Angel tube station), the telephone number is 020 7713 6865.
