LSS newsletter #25 – August 2009
Logic 9 is out, and it's great!
Read all about the new features, the craziness of the missing manual (Apple bastards!), watch videos, how to upgrade, where to get the lowest prices, and much more on our Blog > http://koreaudio.blogspot.com/2009/08/logic-pro-9-what-you-need-to-know.html
Put your computer display on a sexy arm and feel like in a million dollar studio
A few people asked about the flexible arms we use in Angel and Clapham, so here are the links to the silver Display arm (also available in black) and the laptop mounting arm. They are indeed very useful to make sure the monitor is always at hand and then to move it quickly out of the way when mixing, and we have been researching many models before finding the perfect ones. We have just purchased the laptop arm for the DJ Booth (read below for new DJ courses).
Certificate Courses filling up quicker than expected
Almost all the places available for Diploma courses starting in September have been allocated. At the time of writing we have three places available for the Music Production course 101 (only part-time though); two places on Form, Structure and Creativity; two places on Advanced Studio Techniques.
If the course you wanted is full contact us ASAP to add your name to the waiting list: every year we have a few last-minute changes and cancellations, so there is a realistic chance that someone will make it. For the record, the course that filled up most quickly was Sound Design & Synthesis.
Anyone interested in booking a place on the next intake (February 2010) should consider that there will only be room for sixteen new students between all the different courses, so reserving a place now is definitely not too soon. In fact, until the first of September is possible to reserve courses for 2010 at the same price of 2008, saving a few hundreds of pounds. Enrolment is now open for February 2010 and September 2010.
One-Day Mixing & Mastering Masterclass
After the success of the Mixing and Mastering Summer Course which sold out literally within days from appearing on the website, we have thought about a way to deliver as much as possible of that in a single day.
A one-day masterclass would specifically benefit users who already own good quality equipment but who – on the other hand – need to concentrate as much training as possible in a limited time. As usual we are going to work with a very small group of people so if you'd like to find out more about this course call now and see whether you should reserve a place. The official announcement of this masterclass will be at the end of August with a detailed outline on our website and a finalised date, but we can anticipate that it will be on a Saturday probably in late September, and that it will be great value for money.
DJ courses with Traktor Scratch Pro
The DJ Booth in Angel is now equipped with the latest Traktor Scratch DJ software running on a dedicated MacBook. We still have Serato Scratch too, so that you can compare the two most popular solutions used by DJs all around the world to mix with a laptop (with and without the help of turntables, CD decks or other midi controllers). October will see the launch of a new and revamped DJ course, so start making some spare time in the evening and think about which tracks you want to play. More details next month, but if you can't wait give us a call and reserve a place now.
FREE Plugins (from the blog)
The list of free plugins grows every month: check out the new free Kontakt 3.5 sample player with 360MB sound bank from Native Instruments, and many others.
Studio Update
After suffering a couple of slow weeks the construction continues: new pictures on Flickr and a new build starting this week. This will be built on a different design giving us the opportunity to test a number of special sound-proofing solutions which you can preview here.
Finally, find which one was the real AC30
A while ago, we posted on Koreaudio a number of guitar recordings; these were made using a selection of the most -and least- expensive software emulations around, including Guitar Rig, Amplitube, Logic's Guitar Amp and others. Between all these files there was a recording made with a real vintage VOX AC30 (the one normally sitting in the studio in Angel). Download the files and try to guess which one is the 'real thing'. Then read the answer here.
