London School of Sound

LSS newsletter #29 – April 2010

Hello everyone. The Summer is coming, we hope you are well while here things proceed as usual (a full list of new toys and upgrades next month).

So, what's up? Four things.

1) Summer courses. Not so many places left. Don't regret having waited too long.
Electronic Music Production: a condensed version of our Music Production 101 module, create remixes and your own music with Logic Pro. Perfect for beginners, or for anyone who need to 'get' synthesis, sampling, midi, and effects.
Foundations of Sound Engineering: for those that have spent too much time with software alone, this is the course to learn the skills needed to work in recording studios and on stage (microphones, analogue mixers, compressors, gates, Pro Tools)
DJ Remixer: combine your passion for playing records with the first steps in to production, mixing with turntables, software, and producing your own mash-ups with Ableton Live.
Mixing & Mastering: the advanced short course for those that can already produce but who want to learn the secrets of mixing and mastering (here is one secret: expensive gear won't fix your sound)
For info and to reserve one of the last places in July or August, call Frank on 02077206183 or email info@londonschoolofsound.co.uk

2) No-Cost Workshop on Search Engine Optimisation.
Whether you want to promote a concert, your latest album, or anything else you do, internet is how people will find you. Or will they? It's no use having a great website, record, movie, if no one knows it exists.
So here is the deal: we need to work on our website and we need volunteers to help; in return we offer the rare opportunity to gain very valuable SEO skills for free and experience working on a very successful website. Please bear in mind that there are conditions to apply and we will not have enough room for everyone. if you are interested read more about it here.

3) We have recently passed three-hundred-and-fifty (!) posts on KoreAudio, our not-so-official LSS blog.
If you have not been checking it in a while, you should do it now: on the last count there were links to about 40 high quality plugins (synths, samplers, effects), all available for zero pounds, as well as free samples, weird gadgets and lots of other things you might like.
While you are there, we would suggest to subscribe to the blog: this way you will get an email sent to you when the blog is updated, and you will not risk missing our on time-limited offers, remix-competitions, and other special things we sometimes find for you.

4) Federico Bersano Begey will be giving a short public lecture at the Science Museum's Dana Centre, alongside hip-hop godfather DJ Finger and Mykaell Riley (Steel Pulse, Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, and industry consultant).
The event is scheduled for Tuesday 11th of May 2010 at 7pm; it's free to attend but you need to book in advance. For info: Sounds From My Room – the Dana Centre Events.
