Many of our students come and study at the London School of Sound from overseas. Here’s a few tips on the easiest (and cheapest!) way to arrange your journey to the UK’s capital city.
Booking a cheap flight
There are plenty of budget airlines servicing London’s five airports. A good place to start looking is www.skyscanner.net, a dedicated search engine finding cheap flights to and from most destinations.
Websites like easyJet (www.easyjet.com), Opodo (www.opodo.com) and eBookers (www.ebookers.com) also offer the option of booking a hotel with your flight, if you need time to sort out your accommodation on arrival.
Eurostar
If you’re based in Europe and would rather travel by rail, the Eurostar runs from over 100 destinations across France, Belgium and the Netherlands arriving straight into London Waterloo. Also available is the option to book a hotel and car at discounted rates. For details on pricing and to book go to www.eurostar.com.
Getting to your accommodation
If you have arranged your accommodation in advance (which is advisable), it’s possible to book a taxi before your journey at a cheaper rate. Addison Lee is a reputable firm offering reasonably priced seven-seater cars, so there’s plenty of room for luggage! For bookings call + 44 20 7387 8888 or email info@addisonlee.com. If you can’t book in advance, black cabs are always on hand at both airports and railway stations but these will cost more than arranging in advance.
Airport (and transfers to and from the airport)
Most airports also run low-cost express rail services to central London. For more details visit the website of your arrival airport:
Heathrow: www.heathrowairport.com
Gatwick: www.gatwickairport.com
Stansted: www.stanstedairport.com
Luton: www.london-luton.co.uk/en
City: www.londoncityairport.com
Which Airport is best? We are often asked this question. Th etruth is that they are all far from central London and it really doesn't make a big difference which airport you fly to.
